چکیده
GLORYS12 is a global eddy-resolving physical ocean and sea ice reanalysis at 1/12° horizontal resolution covering the 1993-present altimetry period, designed implemented in framework of Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS). The model component NEMO platform driven surface by atmospheric conditions from ECMWF ERA-Interim reanalysis. Ocean observations are assimilated means reduced-order Kalman filter. Along track altimeter level anomaly, satellite temperature concentration, as well situ salinity vertical profiles jointly assimilated. A 3D-VAR scheme provides an additional correction for slowly-evolving large-scale biases salinity. performance shows clear dependency on time-dependent observation system. general assessment highlights state-of-the-art capacity system to capture main expected climatic interannual variability signals ice, circulation inter-basins exchanges. In terms trends, higher than observed warming trend together with slightly lower mean rise. Comparisons made experiment carried out same without assimilation show benefit data controlling water mass properties cover their low frequency variability. Moreover, represents particularly small-scale dynamics compares independent (non-assimilated) data. twin 1/4° allows characterizing quantifying strengthened contribution onto downscaled dynamics. reliable state climate supports applications such seasonal forecasts. addition, this has strong assets serve regional provide relevant marine biogeochemistry. near future, will be maintained close possible real time could therefore continuous reference past states many operational applications.

Increasing Antarctic Sea Ice under Warming Atmospheric and Oceanic Conditions
Estimates of sea ice extent based on satellite observations show an increasing Antarctic sea ice cover from 1979 to 2004 even though in situ observations show a prevailing warming trend in both the atmosphere and the ocean. This riddle is explored here using a global multicategory thickness and enthalpy distribution sea ice model coupled to an ocean model. Forced by the NCEP–NCAR reanalysis dat...
متن کاملGlobal Warming and Northern Hemisphere Sea Ice Extent.
Surface and satellite-based observations show a decrease in Northern Hemisphere sea ice extent during the past 46 years. A comparison of these trends to control and transient integrations (forced by observed greenhouse gases and tropospheric sulfate aerosols) from the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory and Hadley Centre climate models reveals that the observed decrease in Northern Hemisphere...
متن کاملAntarctic Sea Ice Extent Variability and Its Global Connectivity
This study statistically evaluates the relationship between Antarctic Sea Ice extent and global climate variability. Temporal cross-correlations between detrended Antarctic sea ice edge (SIE) anomaly and various climate indices are calculated. For the sea surface temperature (SST) in the eastern equatorial Pacific and tropical Indian Ocean, as well as the tropical Pacific precipitation, a coher...
متن کاملGlobal reanalysis of nPDFs
In this talk, we present the results from our recent global reanalysis of nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs), where the DGLAP-evolving nPDFs are constrained by nuclear hard process data from deep inelastic l +A scattering (DIS) and the Drell-Yan (DY) process in p+A collisions, and by sum rules. The main improvements over our earlier work EKS98 are the automated χ2 minimization, bette...
متن کاملCorrigendum: A global reanalysis of storm surges and extreme sea levels
Extreme sea levels, caused by storm surges and high tides, can have devastating societal impacts. To effectively protect our coasts, global information on coastal flooding is needed. Here we present the first global reanalysis of storm surges and extreme sea levels (GTSR data set) based on hydrodynamic modelling. GTSR covers the entire world's coastline and consists of time series of tides and ...
